If Mark Cuban funds it, it must be good, right? The Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank high chair occupier gave a solid chunk of cash to developers Mention Mobile, who have just released a new app called Cyber Dust – it’s just like Snapchat, except it does more.
By all rights, Cyber Dust should become more popular than Snapchat. Will it? It’s a longshot, but it’s not for want of features. Cyber Dust opens up the self-destructing messages to everything, not just photos with captions. Using Cyber Dust, you can send text messages, pictures, stickers, emojis, and, eventually, videos. All of these will be encrypted and will cease to exist after 30 seconds. The app also has the same screenshot notifications that Snapchat implemented last year, meaning that senders will be immediately notified if someone tries to make their new Cyber Dust message permanent.
It’s a more multifunctional version of Snapchat – the only trick now, as always with messaging apps, is to get your friends to start using it, too. For now, hopefully all of those friends have iPhones – Cyber Dust is only out for iOS, although an Android version is in the works.
